In 5 2/3 innings Sunday, Tarpley allowed two earned runs on seven hits, struck out 6, walked 1 and departed the game in line for the victory with a 5-2 Power lead in his best start at Appalachian Power Park to date. Unfortunately the bull pen gave up 7 runs in the 7th inning that led to a 10-5 victory for the Hickory Crawdads. Concerning Tarpley's performance Power pitching coach Mark DiFelice had this to say... * “I know he gave up a lot of hits, but a lot of them were just those weak-contact bloops over the infield. He had a good slider, a good breaking ball. Overall, a good solid performance today.’’ Stephen had this to say... “I definitely kept the ball down a lot,’’ said Tarpley, “moved some feet [with low, inside pitches], used my two-seamer well, kept guys off-balance all day. I got a lot of weak contact and tried to get my team far into the game without bringing in relievers.’’ Concerning his team... **Tarpley feels the Power can vault into the season’s second half and contend for one of those spots.“We’ve got a great team here, a great group of guys,” Tarpley said. “We’ve been playing really good ball lately, we just haven’t come out on the right side of it. That’s all I can say. We’re keeping our heads up and still pounding the ball, both as pitchers and hitters. We’re just going to keep our heads up and keep pounding away.” |
