Despite suffering from an elevated temperature from a tonsil infection, Tarpley pitched 6 2/3 shutout inning on the road against the Lakewood BlueClaws before exiting the game on pitch count (90 pitches) with a score of 0 - 0. On the night Stephen struck out 7, walked 0, and surrendered no runs on 4 hits. Tarpley also had 3 put-outs and a shattered bat to add to his evening while lowering his ERA to 2.06. West Virginia Power go on to lose 0-1.
Stephen later reported to me that while he felt under the weather, he was very fortunate to have all of his pitch variants working well that evening and credited that fact with his ability to remain in the game as long as he did.
