* Short But Sweet * After years of trying, rain-outs, aborted trips and all sorts of madness, I finally got to see one inning before a massive tropical storm flooded the ballpark! I saw the warm-up and one inning where Stephen walked the first batter, popped-out the second batter, picked-off the batter he walked and finish with a strikeout to end the inning... So I guess I can finally say "I saw my Son pitch professionally!" :-)
For the second week straight Stephen has struggled finding the strike zone consistently on his home field. On a beastly hot afternoon, Stephen was only able to pitch 2.2 innings before yielding to pitch count limitations. During this outing he barely threw half of his pitches for strikes resulting in 6 hits, 6 runs (5 earned), 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. His teammates came to his rescue in the bottom of the 7th inning with 4 additional runs to erase any chance of a lose. Marauders win 11-8 and Tarpley settles for a no-decision.

While the story line will rightfully read "Tarpley struggles, walking 4 while striking out 6 and allowing 6 earned runs over 6 innings", the radio hosts pointed out that he actually pitched very well with the exception of two innings. Stephen's highlight inning was his 6th where he made quick work by striking out the side with only 11 pitches. Two 4-pitch walks and a 3 run HR in the 2nd yielded 3 runs. In the 5 inning trouble came again in the forum of walks and sloppy play after a successful pick-off maneuver caught the 1st base runner napping in a 1st and 3rd situation... results, runner safe at home and 2nd. Stephen's ERA elevated back up to 3.96
All three of Stephen's losses have come at home. He has 1 home and 3 away victories. Even more interesting, Stephen's ERA is 6.26 at home yet a solid 2.12 on the road.
